2 kids, a stroller, & a wheelchair

We did it!  We took both kids to the San Diego Zoo!  Before going we asked Olivia what she wanted to take:

Options:
1. Double stroller
2. Wheelchair

Olivia selected wheelchair so we went for it!  Taking the wheelchair means both my husband and I had to push something - so it was a new adventure for sure. My hubby packed up the car and we headed to the Zoo.

We are currently working on 2 things regarding Olivia and her wheelchair - "stop" and when to let us push/ leave her hands in her lap.

I hear you asking "stop" is an issue?  Uh huh, yep.  She knows what stop means, she uses stop regularly, she yells it a lot too. (I mean she is a 3 yo.)  When it comes to her wheelchair when we say "stop" she puts her hands in the air and the wheelchair just.keeps.going.  Yep - on she rolls and we have to chase after her.  That's a bit TERRIFYING let me tell you!

Second when to put her hands in her lap while we push.  For large trips, like the zoo, we like to push her but also conserve her strength so for some of the worst up hills and every.single.downhill (see paragraph above for reason) we push her and she is supposed to put her hands in her lap.  While I was pushing her at the zoo she would either grab the wheel (which was immediately followed by "ow" because yeah little lady, it hurts! :/ ) OR she would throw on the wheel breaks.  Nothing says "HOLY CRAP" quite like wheelchair handles to the gut.

Overall I am so excited she wanted to take that plunge and it was an awesome experience!  We got to see a new level of freedom for O we haven't yet experienced.  Several "I did it!"'s came out today and it doesn't get much better than that.  As for our little snafus today we will continue to work on them with with the help of our awesome PT and we shall report back later.

For now: BE HAPPY.  LAUGH.  ENJOY CHAOS.
