New Braces = New Challenges

NEW BRACES
Olivia has new braces!!  We love them so much - that we includes Olivia too. Yay!

Aside from being bad ass (excuse the language - but it's true) they have 2 parts and really fit her feet perfectly.  So much better than our last ones.

The first is a little bottie that is molded to for Olivia's foot.  It stops right at the ankle.

The second part is the one with the design - the actual boot portion.  This one goes all the way up to the middle of her shin.

The second part to new braces though is watching for blistering, redness or any skin irritation.  Since Olivia does not have feeling in her feet she will not cry if there is a blister, something is tight, or uncomfortable.  So every few hours we need to take the braces off and check her feet over.

The picture below is a red spot on her heel.  This one took a bit longer than normal to go away so we had to leave the braces off for almost an entire day. 

In this one you can see a tiny white spot on the right side of her heel.  Initially we thought this was the start of a blister but nope, nothing came of it.  PHEW.

Overall the new Cascade braces have already been a huge help to Olivia.  Her feet are holding the correct shape, even when the braces are off!  She uses them to push off of things so hopefully movement of some kind will be in the near future.  And she LOVES the look of them, so not a bad deal there either.
